marketting

this is an example of how i could use web marketing to promote my magazine . the relation ship of the magazine and the web page would work together as the magazine is a physical object if the reader had a copy they could check it anytime and the website doesnt necessarily have that but what the website can do is let the reader view the magazine anytime they need to e.g. if they forget to get one or if they cant get one.

price and publishing

after considering other college magazines i have come up with a price for my magazine
the price of my magazine should be free as  a student would rather spend money on things like notebooks and equipment then a college magazine and i think it should be published once a term or season as it is more conventional

target audience (refined)

after considering the target audiences of other college magazines i have changed my target audience

my target audience should now be aimed at students aged from 15 to 25+ as the people who read my magazine could be considering coming to wyke and maybe some of their parents might be checking up on recent events in the college to see whether it is suitable for their children

liiar analysis

Liiar analysis of GX magazine Grimsby institute magazine
l-the mastheads are clear and very bold which makes them stand out on the magazine
The main image on the front cover is a cartoon style pair of people against a brick wall which doesn’t really show us what’s in the magazine but does make it more attractive
The colour scheme is nice and bright and very bold but there seems to be no house theme running through this college magazine
The thumbnail images do illustrate other articles but again there should be a caption or maybe an arrow to which story it relates to
There is no price indicated on this magazine and for me as a reader this would put me off buying it there is also no barcode
There are some tease lines at the bottom of the page which are much better than the east riding magazine because they give more of a description but could do to tell us which page the story is on
There are no competitions or free gifts in this magazine but I don’t think this would bother people buying this particular magazine
The images on the front cover don’t seem to relate to the main article which isn’t helping the magazine
i-this magazine is being produced for the Grimsby institute
i-the moral values this magazine covers are subjects like the student budget, campus life, childcare, are divorce this magazine is covering a good range of moral values but could include things like drugs and quitting smoking
a-the target audience for this magazine is the students of the college and maybe students wishing to come to the college
r-this magazine is representing the Grimsby institute quite positively because it has made an attractive college magazine and some good stories in it.

liar analysis

east riding college student magazine
l-the mastheads are easy to read but very dull and plain
The main image isn’t very interesting and of reasonable quality and is not conventional as it is not medium close up
The colour scheme is also very plain and is inconsistent because when you turn to the contents page more colours appear around the titles
The thumbnail images are good but there should be a caption or a page number below so that the reader knows where to find the story linked to the image
The price is free so there is no need for a barcode in this magazine but it may make the magazine more authentic
There are a few teasing contents along the front page but I think this magazine should have highlighted them to  make sure they get noticed and maybe page numbers too.
There is no competition or free gift but this could entice the reader to pick up the magazine
The main article does relate to the main image on the front cover as it shows the college trip to berlin
i-they are producing this magazine for east riding college
i-this magazine is cover such moral values like life skills, health but that’s about it
a-The target audience for this magazine is the students of the college
r-this magazine is representing the east riding college and it is making it seem very boring because if [people think the magazines boring they might think the college is too

liiar analysis

Liar analysis of C.U.E magazine
L- The masthead is large and bold and is a very vibrant colour this is ensuring it is noticeable and as you look at the masthead it draws your eyes towards the imagery and other text
The main image is good quality but is not quite a medium close up shot which is required in the brief but does represent the college students well
The colour scheme is very bright and a bit diverse because it’s using a lot of different colours but it doesn’t seem as though it’s ruining the house style
It uses thumbnail images quite well put could do to tell us what page the image comes from a lot of these magazines don’t do this and this is definitely a factor I should consider
It shows the price clearly that it is free and there is no bar code but a bar code would make it look a bit more conventional even though it is unnecessary
The teasing contents along the bottom of the page are better than other magazines because they look more attractive and provide useful information as to what’s in this magazine
I can see no adverts for competitions or free gifts on this magazine but it would encourage people to take one if they did
The main article does relate to the main image because the image represents a new student and the main article is about new kids on the block
I-this magazine is producing it for a college which I can’t find the name of.
I-this magazine covers some issues like new students and activities around the college but not many moral features to do with the students lifestyles
A-The target audience for this magazine would be students from around the ages of 16-25 as it is a college magazine
R-this magazine is representing the college positively because it’s making the students look smart and the college look a good place to take courses

Choice of college

i have decided to choose my own college (wyke) as i can get good images of the students and the campus. i also decided upon this choice because it is easier to design something about your own college and it seems more conventional.

liar analysis of brief (preliminary task)

L - A masthead suitable to my magazine, but bold enough so it’s the first thing the reader notices
A main image medium close up of a person to represent the college and give the reader a hint as to what’s inside the magazine and the characters face should be clear and looking straight at the audience
A bold house style of 2-3 colours I can run through the magazine
Some small images that represent what is inside that represent the articles
A price and barcode this will make the reader more inclined to buy it if they know how much it will cost
A few lines along the bottom of the page to tempt the reader into going further
And maybe a competition or free gift as this works on persuading the target audience into buying
I - I could produce a magazine for publishers like PPA (professional publishers association)because there publications are similar to my magazine but are not in other ways like their target audiences are similar but the genre of magazine is different.
I – some moral values my magazine should cover will be some social issues that affect my target audience such as drugs and STIs
A - My target audience should be people attending college around the age group of 16-20+ and I should also think about the students’ parents and guardians as well as they would also fit with the magazine
R – I intent for my college to be represented positively and stereotypically as this creates a feeling of normality when the audience reads the magazine
